This blog will document the Longhouse Action research project which I am working on. The project began in July 2008; and runs until March 2009. The project aim will be to answer the question: 'What Does This City Really Need?' Through a creative consultation process with the people of Stoke-on-Trent. The project will be in 3 stages: STAGE ONE: Research and Development - I will look at various artists and artist's groups participatory and dialogical practices which operate within the public and social realm of Cities worldwide. I will gather information about best practice modes of engagement and issues relating to a dialogical approach in order to decide on my modus operandii. STAGE TWO: I will carry out the project in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. STAGE THREE: I will collate and evaluate the project and present it back to the people of Stoke-on-Trent.
Anna Francis is an artist whose practice examines private histories, public space and civic languages; using forms of intervention, mapping, performance, consultation and photography to investigate the impact of art and culture on the development of cities. This blog is a space to keep up to date with Anna's ongoing practice.
